Sabina Strings August 2018

Sabina Strings will run from August 8 – 12, 2018 at the inspiring location of Santa Sabina in San Rafael.

AS OF MAY 1ST, SABINA STRINGS CAMP IS FULL. ANY FURTHER APPLICATIONS WILL BE ADDED TO A WAITING LIST.

The ethos of Navarro River String Camp continues, despite the fires that destroyed the Angela Center in Santa Rosa! While NRSC takes a break in 2018, some of the staff have searched for, and finally found, a wonderful alternative location to run a small string camp along similar lines.

Santa Sabina Center is a beautiful and serene retreat in San Rafael with easy access to the freeway.  It was built in 1939 and is complete with tudor-gothic architecture, an inner courtyard garden, a lovely chapel that seats 40-60, a conference room and multiple break-out spaces for quartets or individual practice, including a straw bale hut and a yurt.  There are quotes from Buddha and philosophers written on the walls by a calligraphy retreat and the chef is formerly of Greens Restaurant in SF!  Please check the link below for descriptions of the space and photographs.  The center is all in one building with the bedrooms upstairs and all shared spaces downstairs around a courtyard green space.  Like Angela Center they have the option of single or shared rooms, with bathrooms and showers down the hall.

Sabina Strings will offer coaching in chamber music groups and larger ensembles, instrumental warm-up sessions, and other classes. Body Mapping and Alexander Technique will inform much of what we do, encouraging awareness of playing our instruments without undue stress, and learning how to deal with performance anxiety in a supportive situation.

With an anticipated group size of between 28 – 30 campers, the coaches will be Cathy Allen (cello and Body Mapping), Marion Crombie, (viola and Alexander Technique), Tammie Dyer (violin) and Burke Schuchmann (cello).  If our enrollment increases, we’re excited that Marcia Sloane will be able to join us. Maximum numbers are 36.

Please call Cathy Allen on 510 528 5195 or email from the contact page on this website if you would like further information about the camp, or to request an application form. This camp will be smaller than last year’s NRSC, so to be sure of your place, please apply as soon as possible.
