Workshops – Alexander Technique and String Playing

Applying Alexander Technique to String Playing

Weekend workshops in Mendocino

1. May 16/17, 2015

2. June 6/7, 2015

3. August 1/2, 2015

These weekend workshops will consist of individual lessons and group activities. Each participant will receive two individual lessons in Alexander Technique (one each Saturday and Sunday morning) with optional additional lessons on Friday afternoon and Monday morning. Participants will return for afternoons of guided group activities which will demonstrate the possibilities of applying the technique to daily life, and specifically to playing a stringed instrument. Emphasis is always on the process, and not the end product, and so the choice of music will be simple enough for any level of player. Violin, viola or cello players are all welcome. Group activities will last from 1.30 to 5pm.

The group size will be limited to 4 people, (first come, first served). The workshop will be held at my studio on Cummings St, just one mile east of the village of Mendocino. Each participant will need to find their own accommodation for the weekend, and provide their own meals (more information below).

The cost of the workshop (Saturday and Sunday and including two individual lessons) is $100, with optional lessons on Friday and/or Monday an extra $30 each. If you would like any further information, please get in touch.

The area of Mendocino has plenty of visitor accommodation ranging from basic to fancy! The town of Mendocino has a number of inns and bed and breakfast places, and the town of Fort Bragg (10 miles north) also has some motels. One suggestion for camping or inexpensive accommodation is Jug Handle Farm – www.jughandlecreekfarm.com which is located about 5 miles away. An example of a nearby vacation rental is www.BigRiverRidge.com.
